GMSV sells a right-hand-drive Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium for AUD 135,990 and the ZR2 for AUD 147,490. In the US, a 2024 ZR2 is asking $49,224 to $59,844, which is about AUD 78,000 at the top end. That gap is the reason people searching for a Silverado for sale in Australia keep landing on our site, and our answer is not the one most readers want: the Silverado 1500 is not on the SEVs register, so the truck GMSV sells cannot be imported used from the US by a workshop. The Silverados that can come in are a different and, we think, more interesting list.
The Silverado HD and the Silverado EV are on the register. So is the 1986 to 1999 C/K, the GMT400 that most people picture when they say Chevy truck, and the first-generation Silverado of 1999 onward is rolling into the 25-year concession month by month. Here is what each route costs, and why the first digit of the VIN decides your duty.
The SEVs scheme exists for vehicles Australians cannot buy new here. GMSV sells the Silverado 1500, remanufactured to right-hand drive in Melbourne, which is exactly the kind of "genuinely available" that keeps a model off the register. We checked the in-force entries on October 19, 2026: Silverado HD, Silverado EV, Suburban, the GMT400 C/K and several Corvettes are listed for Chevrolet. The 1500 is not, in any trim. A ZR2 with the 6.2 litre V8, Multimatic DSSV dampers and front and rear lockers is a wonderful truck, and the only way to own one in Australia is to pay GMSV's price.
We would rather tell you that now than after you have bid. The ROVER register is public and updated as entries are added, so it is worth a look every few months. Models do get added when a local importer stops offering a variant.
The 2500 HD and 3500 HD are on the register for builds from December 2020, with no end date. A Registered Automotive Workshop holding a Model Report imports the truck, converts it to right-hand drive and has it verified. A 6.6 litre Duramax 2500 HD is a serious tow vehicle and a different proposition from the 1500, with a GVM that puts it in a heavier vehicle category, so talk to the RAW about registration class before you buy. We quote no conversion figure here; the workshop does.
Also listed, from December 2023 builds. The EV is a niche choice in Australia today, but it is the one new Silverado with an open import door, and electric vehicles get their own treatment under the SEVs environmental criterion. If you want a Silverado that is not a GMSV truck and is not 25 years old, this is it.
This is where our enthusiasm sits. The GMT400 C/K of 1988 to 1998 is on the register in its own right and is also past 25 years, so it comes in under the simple concession with no RAW and no conversion. The first-generation Silverado, which replaced it for 1999, is rolling in behind it: as of October 2026, any Silverado built in or before October 2001 qualifies, and the 2002 to 2006 trucks follow through 2031. A 1999 to 2001 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 litre LM7 V8 is the truck that made the name, and the US still has hundreds of thousands of them.
The 25-year application costs about AUD 42 through ROVER and is explained in the Department of Infrastructure's concessional entry guide. The truck stays left-hand drive, which NSW and SA register in full at 25 years and WA licenses for personal use; Victoria and Queensland want 30 years, so a 2001 truck in Melbourne or Brisbane runs on a club permit or special-interest registration until 2031.
Australia's general duty on a pickup is 5%. A US-built vehicle enters at 0% under the Australia-US FTA, with no certificate of origin required; the import agent claims it and the importer keeps the evidence. GM built the first-generation Silverado 1500 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Pontiac, Michigan, but also in Oshawa, Ontario and Silao, Mexico, and the current ZR2 splits between Fort Wayne and Silao. The first character of the VIN tells you which: 1 is a US plant, 2 is Canada, 3 is Mexico. On a $15,000 truck the difference is about AUD 1,100 in duty plus the GST on it. Check the VIN before you check the odometer.
We will not put a market value on a 2001 Silverado 1500; Bring a Trailer and Cars & Bids sold results for the exact spec are the honest source. For the arithmetic, take a truck you buy for $15,000 on the East Coast and ship from our New Jersey warehouse.
Our Australia rates include asbestos testing before loading. The Australian Border Force bans asbestos at the border and does not accept a seller's letter, and 1990s GM trucks are where brake and gasket material gets questioned. From September 1 to April 30 the brown marmorated stink bug season adds a treatment, done onshore for a sealed container. Our Australia page keeps the duty, GST and biosecurity rules in one place.
Clean GMT400s and early Silverados live in Texas, Arizona and the Carolinas. Our own warehouses in California, Florida and New Jersey cover all of the US for imports and exports, and our own team loads every car and handles every document. We ship door to door, by ocean in a consolidated container as standard and by air when there is a reason. A full-size pickup on stock suspension fits a 40-foot container; a lifted truck or a dually HD gets its own. The WCS shipping calculator has the rate for your port, the shipping form books it, and how we ship a collector car shows the process.
Not the current Silverado 1500: it has no SEVs register entry because GMSV sells it new in Australia. The Silverado HD (2020 onward) and Silverado EV are on the register and can be imported through a Registered Automotive Workshop. C/K trucks and Silverados built in or before October 2001 qualify under the 25-year concession.
AUD 135,990 for the 2026 Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium and AUD 147,490 for the ZR2, before on-road costs (CarExpert, July 2026).
0% if the truck was built in the US and qualifies under the Australia-US FTA; 5% for a truck built in Canada or Mexico. The first VIN character shows the build country: 1 for the US, 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico. GST of 10% applies either way.
At 25 years, yes in NSW and SA, and for personal use in WA. Victoria and Queensland require 30 years for full registration of a left-hand-drive vehicle.
39 days from our New Jersey warehouse to Sydney and 30-33 days from California to Sydney in a consolidated container (WCS rates table, October 18, 2026).
