Ukraine lowers import duties on cars in 2019
Car imports to Ukraine are set to become much more affordable in 2019 due to a new customs law. Effective January 1st, 2019, Ukraine will lower the import excise rate on all new and used gas, diesel, and electric car imports.
Ukraine import duties on cars for 2019:
Engine Type | Displacement | Excise Rate | 1-15 yrs old | >15 yrs old | PDV (TAX) |
GAS | 3 litres or less | 50 EUR per litre | multiply by age | multiply by 15 | 30% of value |
over 3 litres | 100 EUR per litre | multiply by age | multiply by 15 | 30% of value | |
DIESEL | 3.5 litres or less | 75 EUR per litre | multiply by age | multiply by 15 | 30% of value |
over 3.5 litres | 150 EUR per litre | multiply by age | multiply by 15 | 30% of value |
The new law is a continuation of the one passed earlier this year, which allowed older vehicles to be imported and also lowered the import tax temporarily until the end of 2019. However the new law will make it significantly cheaper to import a car to Ukraine.
This is welcome news as demand for import cars in Ukraine has grown drastically. From January to October 2018, the number of cars imported to Ukraine grew to 83,900 cars, a 90% increase over last year.
Shipping a car to Ukraine has also become less expensive as more cars are shipped there. With the introduction of consolidated containers, importers save up to 3 times more by shipping their cars to Ukraine in a shared container.
