Ferrari Shipping Overseas: Container, Air and Real Costs | 2026
A Ferrari crossing the Atlantic in a container costs $1,100 from New Jersey to Rotterdam on our rates table, and the same car flown to Amsterdam costs $10,900. Neither price buys "premium care" on its own: what protects a six-figure car is a short list of things you can check in writing before it leaves the warehouse.
By the Numbers
- $1,100 vs $10,900: container from New Jersey to Rotterdam (17-20 days) against air from New Jersey to Amsterdam (10-14 days). HubSpot rates table (HubDB), October 24 2026.
- $500: the carrier's limit per package under the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act unless a higher value is declared, which is why cargo cover matters on a supercar.
- 72 hours: the title and the car have to be with US Customs before export (19 CFR 192.2).
Premium Labels vs Five Things You Can Check
Words like "concierge" and "climate controlled" sell well and prove nothing. Our view: ask any shipper for these five answers, in writing, before you book a Ferrari, a McLaren or a Lamborghini.
- Who loads the car. Their own team in their own warehouse, or a third party they book.
- How it is secured. Wheel straps on the tires inside a container, never chains on the suspension.
- The condition report. Dated photos of every panel and the wheels before the doors close.
- The cover. Cargo damage protection on the declared value, from warehouse to unloading overseas.
- The method and the date. Container or air, with the transit time from the rates table, not a promise.
We load every car at our own warehouses in California, Florida and New Jersey, covering all of the US for imports and exports, and our own team loads every car and handles every document.

To Europe, flying a car saves about a week for $9,800 more. We would only fly it for a show or a sale date the ship can't make. To the Gulf the math flips: New Jersey to Jebel Ali runs 65-70 days, so a deadline means Texas at 34 days or air at 10-14. Air is not instant either, since the paperwork sets the flight date.
Loading a Low Car
A front splitter is the first part to touch a ramp. A low car goes up on extended ramps or a lift, gets driven by one person who knows the car, and is strapped by the tires so the suspension moves the way it does on the road. Ask for photos of the car strapped in, not only of the container door.
Cover: The $500 Problem
Without declared value or cargo cover, the ocean carrier's liability under the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act stops at $500 per package, and your existing auto policy usually does not cover the car while it ships overseas. Our Cargo Damage Protection covers the car from the moment our warehouse receives it to the moment it is unloaded overseas. On a $300,000 car, we would not ship without it.
Hybrids and the Booking Line
Plug-in hybrids such as the Ferrari 296 GTB and SF90 Stradale carry a lithium-ion battery. Since January 1 2026 the IMDG Code books a lithium-ion powered car at sea as UN3556, a Class 9 dangerous good, in place of the old UN3171. Declare it when you book, and the car ships by container like any V8.
Paperwork Before It Sails
US Customs wants the original title and two copies, with the car, at least 72 hours before export (19 CFR 192.2), and the export filing goes into AES. A car bought at an auction or a show overseas skips the US side and goes straight to the paperwork of the country it lands in. Duty depends on that country: the EU's 0% rate under Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 covers US-origin cars only, so an Italian-built Ferrari pays the standard rate, and the UAE charges 5% on the CIF value, freight and insurance included.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Ferrari shipping overseas cost?
On our rates table on October 24 2026, a container from New Jersey to Rotterdam is $1,100 with 17-20 days in transit, and air from New Jersey to Amsterdam is $10,900 with 10-14 days.
Is air freight worth it for a supercar?
Only when a date forces it. To Europe air saves about a week; to the Gulf from New Jersey it saves close to two months.
Does my car insurance cover a car at sea?
Usually not. Without cargo cover, the carrier's liability is limited to $500 per package under the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act.
Can a hybrid supercar ship by container?
Yes. Since January 1 2026 it is booked as UN3556, Class 9, under the IMDG Code, and it ships like any other car once declared.
What documents do I need to export a supercar from the US?
The original title plus two copies, presented with the car at least 72 hours before export (19 CFR 192.2), and an AES export filing.
