The port of Felixstowe in the UK is hit by delays because of a botched IT upgrade on Sunday. The new system is causing delays of up to three to five hours in processing each shipping container. Some shipping lines are omitting the port completely, and instead are delivering to nearby UK ports.
To avoid shipping delays, the ocean line Hamburg Sud has implemented a contingency plan. For the next month, the carrier will reroute ships from the port of Felixstowe to the port of Southampton.
However with news of ships avoiding the port, Felixstowe is already citing improvements in container handling times. The time it takes for a truck to collect a container is down to 48 minutes, from three to five hours.
We continue to update our UK car shipping customers with updated container transit times.
