Retromobile New York 2026: Auction Preview & Shipping
Rétromobile New York opens at the Javits Center on Thursday, November 19, the first North American edition of the Paris show, with a Gooding Christie's sale on November 20 and 21 led by Steve McQueen's 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider at $15 million to $20 million. Over 70 motorcycles from Billy Joel's collection cross the block the same weekend, all without reserve.
For collectors flying in from Europe, the Gulf or Asia, New York is a buying trip with the cars a short drive from our New Jersey warehouse. Here is what is on the floor and what it costs to ship a car or bike home.

The Headliner: McQueen's NART Spider
Chassis 10453 is the sixth of 10 NART Spiders built and the first of two finished in Blu Sera. It was invoiced to Luigi Chinetti Motors in September 1967 and sold to Steve McQueen through Hollywood Sport Cars. The current owner bought it in 1986 and kept it preserved rather than restored, with its matching-numbers engine and transaxle and original Scaglietti body. This is its first time at public auction.
Two more Scaglietti-bodied Ferraris join it:
- 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB: estimate $2.25 million to $2.5 million
- 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso: estimate $1.4 million to $1.6 million
The show also has a one-off RUF Project Dragon, designed with Tony Hatter and inspired by the CTR2 Sport.
Billy Joel's Motorcycles, No Reserve
Much of the collection lived at 20th Century Cycles, Joel's shop in Oyster Bay, Long Island. The 70-plus bikes cover Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki, and proceeds go to The Joel Foundation. Three of the published estimates, before buyer's premium:
- 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville: $10,000 to $15,000
- 1982 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica: $15,000 to $25,000
- 1975 Ducati 750 Sport: $25,000 to $35,000
At those numbers, the freight home is a real share of the bike. A motorcycle from New Jersey costs $600 by ocean to Rotterdam, Southampton or Bremerhaven, or $3,250 by air in 10 to 14 days. Our motorcycle shipping rates page covers every lane.

The Export Paperwork
US Customs needs the original title, or a certified copy, plus two copies at least 72 hours before a car leaves by vessel or aircraft. If there is a lien, a release letter from the lender goes with it. Every used vehicle export also needs Electronic Export Information filed in AES, whatever the price. Book the shipment once the title is in hand. Our supercar export guide covers the same steps for modern cars.
